What is Community-Based Filmmaking?

Joshua Howes considers himself a community filmmaker, which means that he makes films in collaboration with primarily local, often non-professional fellow artists and actors, along with professional technicians in the local area. The feature film Corona Boys stars his 12-year-old son Leo and his best friend Ja'Sir, is produced largely by their family and neighbors, and is being finished by two professional studios in Chicago.
